New statistics about the demographics of Monegasques were recently released by Monaco’s Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) on 13 March 2025. They show that Monegasques have an average lifespan that is almost 15 years older than the global average lifespan. And a surprising statistic: less Monegasques are choosing to wed.

Population increases to 9,883 Monegasques

In 2024, the number of Monegasques rose by 0.9% or 93 people, meaning the Principality has 9,883 Monegasques. 4,523 men are Monegasque, or 45.8%, while 5,360 women are Monegasque, or 54.2%. The average age of Monegasques is 45.1 years old (42.1 years for men and 47.7 years for women).

Births and Deaths

There were 96 Monegasque births and 81 deaths in 2024. 46 Monegasque boys were born and 50 girls. First-time mothers are 31.5 years on average.

Record-high life expectancy

For Monegasques, life expectancy is 87 years (84.0 years for men and 90.2 years for women). Globally, life expectancy is 69.6 years for men and 74.5 years for women.

Lowest number of marriages since 1983

Only 55 marriages were celebrated between spouses where at least one of the two is Monegasque in 2024. That’s a 5.6% marriage rate. A clear drop compared to 2023 (70 marriages) and especially 2022 (102 marriages). There were 26 divorces in 2023, or a 42.7% gross divorce rate.
