The Brazilian player Jorge officially joins AS Monaco

As announced recently, Jorge the young defender from Brazil joins the leader of the championship AS Monaco as a new player.

It is done! Jorge, the 20-year-old Brazilian left-back from Flamengo, officially signed his contract with AS Monaco on Monday.

The club of the Principality, a leader of Ligue 1, paid 8.5M € to secure for the next 4 and a half years the services of this promising player who found out about his first official selection with the Seleçao last week.

Jorge will have a lot to do, with competition from the first-choice full-backs, Mendy and Sidibé.

New to the international scene, the left-back should arrive in the Principality soon in order to receive the traditional medical evaluation and then sign his contract (a priori for 5 years).

As mentioned, the transfer was completed for an impressive 8.5 million euros, though it will surely be well worth it. Small in frame, lively on the pitch and technically masterful, Jorge has played in a total of 87 matches all competitions combined for his training club, with 5 goals.

As a player of non-EU origin, he will join Falcao, Fabinho and Jemerson in this category (a club cannot hold more than 4 according to the regulations of the LFP) but this excludes Carrillo and Boschilia, who both have Italian passports.

Contrary to what has been printed elsewhere, the player was not represented by agent Jorge Mendes, either on-site or remotely. The Portuguese agent played no part in this transfer.

Jorge could possibly follow the path of Jemerson, who arrived in January 2016, and spent the next six months acclimatizing to the club and the Region before becoming definitively operational for 2017-2018. Benjamin Mendy has finally got a standby, if not more.

As new player Jorge joins AS Monaco, it’s certain that the team and fans will welcome him with open arms.
