Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II attend the St. Devote Rugby Tournament

The 12th edition of the Saint Devote Rugby Tournament was held on 19 and 20 April at the Louis II Stadium. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene were in attendance, as was Minister of State, Pierre Dartout.

This year, the event was bigger than ever and took place over two days for the first time. The tournament welcomed U-12 rugby 7s teams from around the world, including defending champions, the Blue Bulls from South Africa.

Monaco wins 3rd place!

Monaco won the semi-final match against Switzerland, coming in third place! South Africa defended their title and won the tournament again this year, with France coming in 2nd place.

The St. Devote Tournament, which bears the name of the Patron Saint of the Principality, is organised by the Monegasque Rugby Federation in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. The competition was born in 2009 following an exchange between the Monegasque Rugby Federation and the Rugby Club Lucciana, in Corsica.

“The tournament has evolved year after year to become a benchmark in rugby 7s and promote rugby values such as discipline, tolerance, and respect,” states the Princess Charlene Foundation.

Alongside the competition, ‘Rugby for all’ offers courses adapted to children and young adults with disabilities, and the Rugby Tots introduces rugby to very young children.

Princess Charlene gives a Water Safety Workshop ahead of the Rugby Tournament

Princess Charlene gave a water rescue workshop to 96 children at the Stade Louis-II swimming pool on 18 April, one day ahead of the St. Devote Rugby Tournament. Young children from eight U-12 teams (South Africa, Ivory Coast, Greece, Mauritius, India, Ecuador, United States, Georgia) learned first aid and water rescue basics. Organised by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and supervised by the team from the Académie Monégasque de la Mer, led by Pierre Frolla, the workshop took place with the support of the Monegasque Red Cross.
