La Diagonale is among France’s top academies

As they are every year, AS Monaco are among the top 5 of the most successful clubs at developing talent in France, according to the annual rankings of the French Football Federation.

Now, more than ever #MadeInLaDiagonale! As they have for several years now, the AS Monaco academy has been honored for its performance. Again present in the top 5 of the best top flight academies, La Diagonale is in a very good position in the 2022 rankings of the French Football Federation. With an average rating of 3.5 stars out of 5, the Principality club finishes behind only OL (4.5), Le Havre, Saint-Etienne and Paris Saint-Germain (4).

Criteria for excellence

The Rouge et Blanc Academy thus shares its place at the top of the rankings with two other clubs renowned on the French scene for the quality of their training: Stade Rennais and FC Nantes. This hierarchy, established at the end of each season by the governing body of French football, grades the clubs on several criteria:

  • The number of professional contracts signed by players trained at the club (U16 to U23) and playing in the top two divisions of the ten countries best placed in the UEFA rankings (as well as the National in France)
  • The cumulative playing time in the first team by players trained at the club
  • National caps earned by players trained at the club
  • The diplomas obtained during the schooling of players trained at the club
  • Cumulative playing time in European competition by players trained at the club

Benoît Badiashile in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season

According to the data collected by the FFF and reported on by the National Technical Director, Hubert Fournier, in the report published at the end of last week, AS Monaco had – at the time of publication – 26 graduates with professional contracts. Among them, Benoît Badiashile stands out in the eleven of the most-used players during the 2021-2022 season (1838 minutes of play in Ligue 1). Chrislain Matsima, winner of the Maurice-Revello trophy this summer with the French U20s, and Eliot Matazo, also made several appearances in the various competitions in which the Club played last season.

Scholarship at the heart of the team’s educational project

But it is also thanks to its academic structure that La Diagonale shines at the highest level of French academies. With 100% of the team’s youngsters passing their Baccalaureate in this summer of 2022, the Academy stands out with its extensive support of its young footballers’ education. It’s a mark of excellence which confirms that the Rouge et Blanc academy  is once more one of the most successful in France, as often!
