AS Monaco blazed their way to a stunning 1-4 win at the Orange Vélodrome to retake top spot in League 1!
AS Monaco stormed back to the top of the table in Marseille tonight, easing to a comfortable 1-4 win over OM in a high octane match. While Danijel Subasic kept the scoreline at 0-0 early on with a fine reflex save from point-blank range (5 mins), his teammates quickly edged ahead. Thomas Lemar found himself out wide on the left of the penalty area but produced a magnificent chip to beat Pelé (15 mins), a goal that had shades of Dimitar Berbatov’s sumptuous effort against Nice in 2014.
The Monegasques were looking dangerous on the break, and soon had a second goal. Sent clear by a perfect ball from Sidibé, Falcao showed all his goalscoring instincts to dink the ball over Pelé (0-2, 21 mins). The home side stuck at their task and Rolando hauled them back into the game with a header (1-2, 28 mins).
But Leonardo Jardim’s men continued to dominate and produced a hammer blow just before the break. It was a textbook move orchestrated by Bernardo Silva, who finished with a superb header from Touré’s inch-perfect cross (1-3, 44 mins). The Portuguese midfielder even had the luxury of bagging a brace, slotting home from close to the penalty spot after Fabinho’s shot was pushed out (1-4, 55 mins).
