AS Monaco into the final of the Coupe de la Ligue

AS Monaco overcame Montpellier thanks to a double from Falcao, and will face PSG once again in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Mission accomplished. AS Monaco got the job done perfectly against Montpellier (2-0) and assured themselves of a place in another Coupe de la Ligue final. Leonardo Jardim’s men stamped their authority on proceedings within the first few moments. Raggi (12’) and then Falcao (13’) both had sighters, before the skipper set his side on their way with the opener, after superb skills from Sidibé (15’, 1-0).

The Red & Whites were well on top, and dealt their opponents a hammer blow on the half-hour mark with a textbook goal. Raggi started the move down the left, Rony Lopes delivered an measured cross and El Tigre finished from close range (30’, 2-0). The rest of the game was something of a canter for the home side, and they could have added more goals to their tally.

The referee twice opted to use VAR in this game, first to overturn the award of a penalty after good work from Jovetic (17’), and later to chalk off a Rony Lopes goal for a marginal offside by Falcao (66’). But it was all academic as AS Monaco eased to victory and secured a place in the final in Bordeaux on 31 March, where they will be looking to exact revenge on PSG.
