The 2023-2024 season is now well in progress; so have you noticed the new numbers of the players? Maybe these new numbers gave them good luck in their 3 goal win over Strasbourg. And more good luck to come we hope.
Look for the changes in jersey numbers within the squad, as at the start of the season, new jersey numbers are introduced. Here are the noteworthy changes among the Monaco squad members on the back of the jersey adorned with the Diagonal.
An unusual number for Soungou
Recruits, key players, and young talents from the Academy have all been assigned a number between 1 and 99, as approved by the Professional Football League. Indeed, since last season, players can choose numbers beyond 40. For instance, Soungoutou Magassa, who was tested as a central defender by coach Adi Hütter during preparations, has chosen number 88 after previously wearing 41.
On the other hand, Yllan Okou has gone from 99 to… 23! Among the most notable changes, Eliesse Ben Seghir has opted for the number 7, taking the place of 44, which was assigned to him last year. Meanwhile, Eliot Matazo wore the number 15 for just one season. Now, the midfielder developed in the Academy will don the number 8, left vacant since Aurélien Tchouaméni’s departure to Real Madrid.
Classic and unique choices for the newcomers:
Continuing with young talents from the training center, Edan Diop has decided to represent his hometown, Tours, by switching from 43 to 37 – the department number of Indre-et-Loire! Finally, three out of four of AS Monaco’s new signings have opted for classic numbers: Philipp Köhn will wear 16, Mohammed Salisu will continue with 22, just as he did at Southampton, while Denis Zakaria has chosen number 6, as with the national team.
On the other hand, the latest addition, Wilfried Singo, was more unique, taking the number 99 previously held by Yllan Okou last season.
