Christophe Steiner becomes the Princely Cabinet’s New Director

The new Director of the Princely Cabinet, Christophe Steiner, took an oath before Prince Albert II on Friday 22 September at the palace. The four other members of the Princely Cabinet and Cabinet advisors assembled alongside Prince Albert II in the Salon des Glaces for the ceremony. The new position was first appointed to Christophe Steiner on 4 September.

UN General Assembly: Prince Albert II speaks about Climate Change in New York

Prince Albert II travelled to New York for the three-day United Nations General Assembly and Climate Ambition Summit between 18-20 September. On Monday, the Sovereign participated in the opening of the Summit on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) before co-chairing an event with the President of Seychelles about ocean sciences. In the evening, the Prince participated in a Princess Grace Foundation reception.

On Tuesday, the Prince spoke at the “Sport in the service of nature” breakfast, supported by the International Olympic Committee and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. He then attended the UN general debate where the presidents of Brazil and the United States took the podium. On Tuesday evening, President Joe Biden organized his traditional reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Prince Albert also met with Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission, to reaffirm the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Monaco and the European Union.

On Wednesday 20 September, the Prince was one of the first heads of state to sign the high seas treaty. The Sovereign then gave a 13-minute speech at the UN to heads of state and governments from around the world, demanding the implementation of drastic measures aimed at limiting global warming. A challenge that can only be met by a collective effort from all countries. Prince Albert also spoke about issues linked artificial intelligence.

“While my country celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of its admission last spring, know that my determination to ensure that Monaco actively contributes to the achievement of the goals of the Charter is all the stronger as the challenges that threaten us continue to amplify and oblige us,” said the Prince in his speech.

Princess Stephanie visits the Rainier III exhibition at the Yacht Club

Princess Stephanie, chair of her father’s Centenary Committee, visited the “Prince Rainier III, a sailor above all” exhibition at Yacht Club on Sunday 17 September. The Princess also took the opportunity to tour the Club’s headquarters, located at Quai Louis II. Featuring photographs of Prince Rainier III at sea, including photos taken by Princess Grace, the exhibition highlights the Prince’s love of the open water. The exhibition began on 31 May and runs until 31 December 2023.

Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella clean up the Streets of Monaco

Prince Albert II accompanied twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella as they participated in World Cleanup Day on 16 September. The annual global social action program aims to combat litter and marine debris.

While Princess Charlene is in South Africa, Prince Albert and the twins put on gloves and collected trash and cigarette butts across Monaco-ville. The event was organized by Sebastien Uscher (Stand Up for the Planet Association) in partnership with Monaco’s Town Hall, Decathlon Monaco, Mission for Energy Transition, SMA and the ECO Angel.

Prince Albert II celebrates Oktoberfest in Munich

Prince Albert II travelled to Bavaria on 16 September to celebrate Oktoberfest with friends. He was spotted wearing traditional lederhosen and a tradition cookie necklace iced with the word “Boss”. He celebrated alongside Alexander Liegl, Monaco’s honorary consul in Munich and was photographed with Oktoberfest host Michael Käfer and his wife, Clarissa.
