Prince’s Grandfather, John B. Kelly Sr is Honoured at the Paris Olympics

To celebrate the centenary of his third gold medal in rowing one hundred years ago, at the 1924 Paris Games, ‘World Rowing’ honoured the grandfather of Prince Albert II with a reception at the Paris Olympics in the presence of the Sovereign, the Kelly family, Thomas Bach, IOC President and Jean Christophe Rolland, president of World Rowing.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, said that beyond this anniversary, the event also celebrated an Olympic family, with John B. Kelly Jr (bronze medalist in rowing at the 1956 Games), Prince Albert II, five-time bobsleigh participant at the Winter Games from 1988 to 2002 and Princess Charlene, swimmer at the 2000 Games.

Prince Albert II presents the Gold Medal for Rowing

The Prince presented the Olympic medals to the winners of the double sculls at the Vaires-sur-Marne water sports stadium on Thursday 1 August. Representing Romania, A.S. Cornea and M. Enache climbed onto the highest step of the podium, ahead of silver medalists M. Twellaar and S. Broenink (Netherlands) and the bronze medalists D. Lynch and P. Doyle (Ireland).

Prince Albert II cheers on Team Monaco at the Olympics

Quentin Antognelli won the single scull D final, completing his Games in the most beautiful way. On the Vaires-sur-Marne race course, for his fifth race, the representative of the Principality set an excellent time of 6:54.93, finishing the Games in an honourable 19th place overall.

On Tuesday, in a packed Stade de France, Marie-Charlotte Gastaud set out to beat her personal best time in the 100 metre. In lane 7, she finished 6th in heat 4 of the preliminary round. With a time of 12:41, the “red and white” sprinter beat her previous record (12:52). The athlete stated that she is satisfied with her race and that running at the Stade de France was magical, the atmosphere was magnificent and unique.

Princely couple discusses the Olympics in a Paris Match Interview
