The last meeting of the Prince Rainier III Centenary Commemorations Committee was held at the Prince’s Palace in the presence of Prince Albert II, Princess Stephanie and the Princess of Hanover on Tuesday 20 February. Pierre Dartout, Minister of State, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès, President of the National Council and other members of the Commemorations Committee were also present.
During the meeting, Princess Stephanie, President of the Commemorations Committee, thanked all the teams behind the events on 31 May 2023 as well as all the events which took place throughout the year. The Princely Family and the members of the Committee also viewed a preview of a new documentary about the year of commemorations, produced and directed by the Communications Department.
Protecting Polar Regions: Prince Albert II attends the Signing of a Polar Memorandum
On the sidelines of the Polar Symposium, representatives of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) and the Oceanographic Institute signed a memorandum in the presence of Prince Albert II, establishing a partnership to protect the polar regions, on Thursday 22 February.
The event marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration of scientific cooperation and awareness-raising concerning polar, marine and coastal areas. The aim is to set up research and communication projects and support the creation of Marine Protected Areas in the Southern Ocean. The first collaboration has already begun, with several scientists aboard an exploration vessel to collect data on the Danger Islands archipelago in Antarctica.
Disco Queen Gloria Gaynor to perform at the Rose Ball in March!
The legendary Gloria Gaynor will be onstage at the Salle des Etoiles during the next, disco-themed Bal de la Rose on 23 March. Designer Christian Louboutin is behind the disco evening for the benefit of the Princess Grace Foundation. Between concerts in the United States, Italy and Brazil, the ‘I will survive’ singer officially announced her presence at the legendary ball on her website.
Women’s Day events in Monaco
International Women’s day is coming up on 8 March and Monaco has unveiled a list of events taking place at the Espace Léo Ferré. From 9 am to 8 pm, the program of free and accessible events includes: a reading of poems by children, an interactive theatre forum, workshops, round tables and concerts.
The SheCanHeCan association and the Women Business Leaders of Monaco will join forces to offer young girls aged 11 to 25 a “speed mentoring” session. Mr OneTeas will once again offer two participatory activities: a wish tree and a stencil workshop. A concert by Nalla and guitarist Florent Garcia will take place before a performance by keyboardist Sarah Coponat. Finally, “an ode to women in all their dimensions” a multimedia show directed by Erick Ifergan and performed by Ada Tedeschi inspired by stories by Lewis Caroll and Rudyard Kipling and poems by Paul Eluard.
