Prince Albert visits Vienna and Bratislava

Prince Albert went on a three-day trip to the cities of Vienna, Austria and Bratislava, Slovakia from 12-14 October. In Vienna, the Sovereign Prince was the guest of honour at the “Flame of Peace” party organized by Herta Habsburg-Lothringen and her husband Count Sandor. In the late evening, the couple gave him a distinction which honours women and men of peace.

Prince Albert receives Honorary Doctorate in Bratislava

Comenius University in Bratislava awarded an honorary doctorate to Prince Albert for his work in protecting natural and cultural heritage as well as his effort in the fight against climate change. The Prince’s doctorate was awarded by the University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences on 14 October.  The Faculty also signed a bilateral agreement on mutual cooperation with the Principality of Monaco on activities concerning environmental protection.

Thus far, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has allocated more than 55 million euros to supporting science and education in environmental protection since its creation in 2006.

Prince Albert participates in No Finish Line Bratislava

The No Finish Line charity race, a concept originally from Monaco, occurred in Bratislava last Wednesday.  Prince Albert put on his running shoes in the Slovakian capital along with over 2,600 other participants to benefit the Children and Future Association.

Peter Sagan, the famous Slovakian cyclist, Dominik Hrbaty (tennis), Matej Toth (athletic walking) were also on the track alongside the Prince. Other athletes travelled from Belgium and France to participate in the event.  Although there were far fewer participants in the Bratislava race compared to the Monaco edition, each participant ran an average of 25 km, compared to about 15 kilometres in other cities.

Prince Albert presented the trophies to the race’s winners.  Money raised at the event will help the Children and Future Association build therapeutic playgrounds for sick children.

Childrens Day at Prince Albert II Recreation Centre

Children’s Day, a day of celebration for youth at the Prince Albert II Recreation Centre, took place on Wednesday. Accompanied by the lovable mascot, Bouba, AS Monaco athletes Adrien Silva, Benjamin Lecomte and Ruben Aguilar attended the event in La Turbie.

Four workshops were organized which allowed children aged 5 to 11 to play sports and interact with their idols. Before leaving, the players signed posters for the children, who have all been invited to attend the ASM’s next match on Sunday, against Rennes.

President of Albania visits Monaco

On Wednesday 16 October, Ilir Meta, President of Albania, paid a one-day official visit to the Principality of Monaco.  At the invitation of Prince Albert II, the President was accompanied by HRH Prince Leka II of Albania and his wife, Princess Elia of Albania.

After a bilateral meeting, the Prince awarded President Meta with a Grand Cross of the Order of Saint-Charles during an official ceremony.  After lunch, President Meta paid a private visit to the Oceanographic Museum.

The Prince Albert II Foundation is helping develop a marine protected area in Albania.  Prince Albert visited the President in Albania back in October 2018.
