Prince Albert spoke at a high-level event, organized by the Unesco – Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission: “A Brave New Ocean”on Thursday. The Sovereign emphasized the vital importance of preserving marine ecosystems and spoke about the ocean’s essential role. The environment, climate and the preservation of biodiversity have become major concerns at a global scale, and the Ocean is at the heart of these issues. The event, part of the United Nations Ocean Decade, comes at a moment when humans need to create a healthier and nature-friendly world.
Prince Albert says goodbye to close friend Jean-Marc Giraldi
In the presence of HSH Prince Albert, a final tribute was paid to Jean-Marc Giraldi, President of the Société Nautique de Monaco and close friend of the Prince.
After weeks of fighting, the president of the Monaco Nautical Society, Jean-Marc Giraldi, succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday evening at the age of 62. The Monegasque was known for tirelessly inspiring local people to pick up rowing. He obtained new buildings, equipment, and forged a special relationship with the Yacht Club. The native of Menton became a naturalized Monegasque in 2006. He worked in power boating, managed sports shops, including one in Nice, managed equipment and maintained bobsleigh machines, repaired boats and much more. Jean-Marc Giraldi will truly be missed.
Monaco becomes first to use Electric Garbage Trucks
On Tuesday 2 February, HSH Prince Albert II was able to discover the four new 100% electric garbage trucks on the Place du Palais. They will be used for the first time in a few days by the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA). The trucks, which have a capacity of 26 tonnes, will be used for the collection of household waste in the Principality, replacing the current vehicles. The new trucks will allow a reduction in noise and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Once the trucks hit the road in a few days, Monaco will be the first location where waste is collected by a fully electric fleet.
Monaco’s Biodiversity captured in Photo Exhibition and Book
The inauguration of a photographic exhibition entitled ‘Principality of Monaco – Biodiversity under high surveillance’ was held in the presence of HSH Prince Albert and Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Government Councillor, on Monday 25 January.
The exhibition, which will take place until 23 February at the Galerie des Pêcheurs, highlights the richness of Monaco’s biodiversity through photos of heritage species (flora and fauna) photographed in their natural environment. Produced by photographer Jean-Charles Vinaj under the aegis of the Department of the Environment, the photographs are also available in a book of the same name, which was officially launched at the exhibition.
AS Monaco win 100th Derby de la Côte d’Azur
With Prince Albert and President Dmitri Rybolovlev cheering their team on at the Stade Louis II, AS Monaco beat OGC Nice (2-1) for the 100th derby of the Côte d’Azur. Unbeaten in 2021, the Monegasques solidify their fourth place position, only three days after a victory against FC Nantes (1-2).
Prince Albert II joined Club President Dmitry Rybolovlev and his daughter, Ekaterina Rybolovleva and her husband Juan Sartori, for the exciting match. The Sovereign then descended to congratulate the players in person. AS Monaco has now won the Derby de la Côte d’Azur a whopping 43 times, the most wins compared to any other team.
