Prince Albert visits Peronne
Prince Albert visited the Peronne Historial Museum of the Great War, before going to City Hall to visit the Alfred-Danicourt Municipal Museum. At the Historial, the Prince unveiled a plaque about the Treaty of Alliance between France and Monaco, which was signed in Peronne in 1641.
Before his visit to Peronne, Prince Albert visited the location of the Armistice in Compiègne to participate in a tribute ceremony dedicated Prince Louis II of Monaco, who was part of the French army during the First World War.
Prince Albert attends Herculis EBS Cocktail Celebration
On Wednesday 5 December, the Monegasque Athletics Federation held its traditional end-of-season Herculis EBS cocktail celebration at Le Meridien in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II, President of the Federation. Many outstanding athletes attended the event, like record-breaking Beatrice Chepkoech, from Kenya, Elena Vallortigara and Kevin Mayer.
During the event, the athletes were rewarded for their strong results during the 2018 edition, an event with incredible results: 14 national records, 7 world best performances of the year and a world record by Beatrice Chepkoech for the 3,000 metre steeplechase. The next Hercules event will be held on Friday 12 July 2019.
Prince Albert unveils Tribute Statue to Monegasque Firefighters
Prince Albert recently unveiled a statue which honours the fourteen Monegasque firefighters who died during the First World War. After laying a wreath and solemnly stating the names and ranks of the fallen soldiers, the Sovereign unveiled the statue, conceived by sculptor Blaise Devissi. The artist created a statue which represents a firefighter about to leave his barracks to go to war.
The bronze work of art was revealed on Saint Barbe’s Day, on the Place du Campanin. Firefighters and fire trucks lined up next to an old Ford Model T. The Model T was symbolic for two reasons: it once belonged to Prince Rainier III and Americans allies came to France during the war and used the cars as ambulances.
Prince Albert attends First Coral Reef Initiative General Assembly
The first General Assembly for the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) under Monegasque co-presidency was opened by the Prince Albert II. The meeting was held at the Yacht Club of Monaco until 7 December.
More than 80 high-level international experts and coral representatives gathered for the General Assembly, during which the ICRI Secretariat Action Plan (2018-2020) was presented. This action plan aims to respond to the many human pressures facing coral reefs.
In his speech, HSH Prince Albert II stressed: “International mobilization, the joint action of economic actors and states, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, scientists and local organizations can lead to valuable results. More than ever we must remain mobilized and determined.”
Prince Albert inaugurates Ferrari Exhibition
On Monday, Prince Albert inaugurated an exhibition that brings together fifty historic Ferrari models at the Fontvieille automobile museum. With drivers Jean Alési and Charles Leclerc by his side, the Prince opened the prestigious exhibition aimed at car lovers, which will be on display until 15 March.
The unique exhibition includes Grand Prix and Sport models, as well as the extremely rare 1962 250 GTO. Only 36 units of this car were produced and it is considered the best sports car of the brand. Today, it is still the most expensive car in the world; it recently sold for $70 million at auction.
Prince Albert sings at Medical Cabaret
Prince Albert performed a surprise duet with Professor Nadir Saoudi at the Medical Cabaret on Sunday night at the Salle des Étoiles. The unique and wonderful Medical Cabaret is a benefit for “Monaco Aide et Présence” (MAP). The big production included sixty performers on stage… including the Sovereign.
Prince Albert II was invited by Professor Nadir Saoudi, head of the cardiology department of the Princess Grace Hospital Center (CHPG) to share his secret singing talent to the public. Both of them took to the stage for memorable renditions of “The Christmas Song” and “White Christmas”. A beautiful surprise during a 2 hour festive evening full of music, singing and talent.
