Prince Albert II celebrates “Olympic Day” with Monaco’s Children
Monaco celebrated Olympic Day, a global tradition created in 1948, with the participation of Prince Albert II and 120 students. The day after the Olympic torch passed through Monaco, the best CM1 students in the Principality (selected from over 420 students) took part in a series of workshops, supervised by Olympians. Six athletic events were focused around the three pillars of the day: “move, learn and discover” at the Espace Saint-Antoine.
Princess Charlene attends Olympic commemorative Concert in Paris
Princess Charlene attended a concert to commemorate a speech given 130 years ago to the day by the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin at the Grand Amphithéâtre de la Sorbonne. The Pierre de Coubertin family association chose a musical concert as the apt medium for evoking the Olympic spirit in front of an audience of high-ranking personalities.
Pierre de Coubertin was a French educator, historian, co-founder of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its second president. President of the IOC, Thomas Bach; President of the French National Olympic Committee, David Lappartient, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, Tony Estanguet were also in attendance as well as several government officials and celebrities.
Princess Stephanie presents Student Carabiniers with their Corps Insignia
Princess Stephanie, godmother of the Prince’s Carabinieri, presented the corps insignia to four student carabinieri on the helicopter landing pad of the Moneghetti barracks. After a welcome by Lieutenant-Colonel Martial Pied, head of the corps, and a review of the troops, the company pennant was presented to the young recruits of the “Louis Nattareu” promotion. The Princess decorated the carabinieri with the corps insignia, which was blessed by Father Christian Venard, chaplain of the public force. The ceremony ended with the Monegasque anthem sung by the orchestra of the Carabiniers du Prince. The new Carabinieri will swear an oath to the Sovereign and his family on 8 July.
Prince Albert II and the Princely Twins attend “batafoegu” Celebrations
Prince Albert II, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella attended the traditional “batafoegu” at nightfall to celebrate the festival of fire and light on 23 June, the eve before St. Jean Baptiste Day. Despite the rain, the bonfire burned brightly on the Place du Palais. Before the fire, a religious service was celebrated in the Palatine Chapel. The bonfire represents the summer solstice and, for Christians, the victory of Christ the light over darkness.
Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene unveil Monaco’s Olympic Team!
The Monegasque Olympic Committee officially unveiled all five athletes who will be representing Monaco during the upcoming Paris Olympics. Prince Albert II, who is President of the Monegasque Olympic Committee and Princess Charlene attended the event, which was held at the Yacht Club on 27 June.
The five athletes are: Lisa Pou (swimming), Théo Druenne (swimming), Quentin Antognelli (rowing), Xiaoxin Yang (table tennis) and Marie-Charlotte Gastaud (running). Lisa Pou and Théo Druenne will be Team Monaco’s flag-bearers.
Princely Family attends World Rugby Sevens
The World Rugby Sevens in Monaco decided the final men’s and women’s qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Eleven men’s and eleven women’s teams competed from 21-23 June at Stade Louis II. On the opening day of the competition, the captains were welcomed by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene at the Prince’s Palace. Princess Charlene was wearing a custom suit by Crisoni Monte-Carlo.
The next day, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene attended the event with Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. The men’s qualifying teams are: France (host nation), New Zealand, Argentina, Fiji, Australia, Uruguay, Ireland, USA, Kenya, Samoa, Japan and South Africa. The women’s tournament will feature France (host nation), New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and USA, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, South Africa, Fiji, Japan and China.
Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline attend Coeur Central Gala Dinner
Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline attended the Coeur Central gala dinner on 19 June. Organized by the Monegasque Tennis Federation (chaired by Melanie-Antoinette de Massy) and the French Tennis Federation, the event took place at the Monte-Carlo Country Club for the first time. Previous editions were held at Roland-Garros. 200 guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner and entertainment on the Rainier III clay court. An auction raised funds for two charities (Terre d’Impact and GEMLUC) with lots including tennis racquets belonging to Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.
