Prince Albert II and Morgan Freeman open the Monte-Carlo Television Festival
The 63rd Monte-Carlo Television Festival kicked off with Morgan Freeman receiving an award in honour of his entire career from Prince Albert II in the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum on 14 June. Morgan Freeman, 87, won the Crystal Nymph trophy before the festival screened the world premiere of the series The Gray House, which he co-produced with Kevin Costner. The actor has been wearing a compression glove on his left hand ever since he suffered nerve damage during a near-fatal car crash in 2008. Prince Albert II welcomed celebrities to the Festival, including actress Simone Ashley, Bridgerton, and the cast and crew of The Gray House, including Amethyst Davis, Mary Louise Parker, Ben Vereen, Leslie Greif, Daisy Head and Dan Cohen.
Princess Caroline and Charlotte Casiraghi attend the Miquel Barcelo Exhibition
The Princess of Hanover and her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi visited the ‘Miquel Barcelo, Oceanographer’ exhibition at the New National Museum of Monaco on 6 June 2024. Miquel Barcelo, one of the greatest contemporary painters, was present during the vernissage.
Through a selection of around sixty pieces (paintings, ceramics, embroideries, works on paper), this exhibition offers a fresh look at the prolific output of Miquel Barceló, a Spanish artist who made the sea a central theme of his work. The exhibition runs until 13 October and is being hailed as an echo to the history of oceanography, something very dear to the Principality of Monaco.
Prince Albert II inaugurates Secret Security Checkpoint for the SBM
Prince Albert II inaugurated a new temporary and secret security checkpoint, where 14 operators oversee more than 1,200 cameras 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in partnership with Monaco’s Police Force. The checkpoint includes access to the 10,000 alarms installed across all Société des Bains de Mer establishments.
According to Stephane Valeri, Deputy President of the Société des Bains de Mer, the nerve centre is dedicated to the safety of property and people all over Monaco. Surveillance is divided into three zones: Casino, the Carré d’Or resort site zone and the remote zone which includes Sporting, Monte-Carlo Beach and more. In a few months, the SBM security checkpoint will move to a more spacious location, still within the Carré d’Or sector.
Upaint Street art Festival raises €31,000 for the Prince Albert II Foundation
Monaco’s Upaint Festival took place on the Promenade du Larvotto in the presence of Prince Albert II until 10 June. This eighth edition welcomed the public to admire live painting by twelve international street artists.
Each artist brought their own unique style, personality and generous spirit as they used urban art to beautify Monaco’s public spaces. The festival helped raise public awareness about important environmental causes.
Before this year’s auction, 31,000 euros was presented to the Sovereign for the Prince Albert II Foundation. The money was raised during the previous edition. The festival closed with this year’s live auction, curated by the Hôtel des Ventes de Monte-Carlo
Prince Albert II celebrates 10th Anniversary of “Yachting Monaco”
Over 200 people gathered to celebrate ten years of “Yachting Monaco” in the presence of Prince Albert II, president of the Yacht Club of Monaco, on 11 June. The Prince expressed his desire to continue to make yachting as sustainable as possible.
Since its creation, Yachting Monaco has brought together various players (from brokers to designers, shipyards, equipment manufacturers and many other professionals) to spur innovation and sustainable growth in the yachting sector.
Monaco is a leader in the yachting industry. Monaco’s yachting sector consists of 411 specialized companies, employing almost 1,500 people on land. Innovation among the younger generation of yachters will be in the spotlight during the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (taking place from 1-6 July 2024).
Princess Charlene organizes Water Safety Days in Corsica and Leon
Princess Charlene and her team from the Princess Charlene Foundation organized Water Safety Days in Leon for CM1 and CM2 students on 11 June, after a similar event in Corsica. The event included an introduction to rescue, first aid and role-play at Lake Leon for 140 young participants from four schools. The workshops, in the presence of Princess Charlene, were led by Stéphanie Barneix, ambassador of the Princess Charlene Foundation and world water rescue champion, as well as by her team of athletes and ambassadors: Pierre Frolla, Kevin Crovetto and Jérôme Fernandez.
