Early this January, Formula 1 driver Lando Norris’s Ferrari F40, very recognizable with its custom Enkei wheels, was involved in an accident near here in Monaco. Norris was not driving at the time, as he was reportedly in Dubai for New Year’s celebrations. The incident occurred on Avenue d’Agerbol in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, en route from Monaco to the Le Maybourne Riviera hotel. A video shared on TikTok captures the red Ferrari losing control after exiting a tight bend, spinning into a metal barrier. The driver, whose identity remains unknown, appears to have overcorrected after the rear of the car stepped out, leading to the collision.
No Traction Control!
The Ferrari F40, renowned for its 471-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine, is a challenging vehicle to handle, especially without modern electronic aids like stability control. This absence of assistance can make the car demanding to drive, particularly for those unfamiliar with its characteristics, such as the turbo lag.
Fortunately, the damage from the crash appears to be relatively limited, primarily affecting the rear bumper. Purchased last year for almost €1.5 million, given the rarity of the F40, with only about 1,300 units produced, repairs may be challenging due to scarce parts. However, the vehicle is expected to be repairable.
This incident is not the first involving an F40 in the Monaco area; approximately five years ago, another F40 was completely destroyed in a fire.
As of now, there is no information regarding any injuries resulting from the accident. The assumption is that fortunately there are none. The identity of the driver remains unknown, and it’s unclear under what circumstances they were operating Norris’s vehicle.
