In addition to ‘La Belle’, the Monaco Dance Forum partnered with the Monte-Carlo Ballet are offering a festival program around the theme of Contemporary Creation, beginning on the 10th of December.
In December, the Monte-Carlo Ballet will combine young talents and seasoned artists in the Monaco Dance Forum, before the end-of-year program of La Belle. Jean-Christophe Maillot, choreographer and director of the Monte-Carlo Ballet, will be presenting works that give pride to contemporary form in many venues around the city: the Salle Garnier, Théâtre des Variétés, the Salle Prince-Pierre at the Grimaldi Forum and even the ice rink at the Rainier-III nautical stadium. For eleven days, from the 10th to 21st of December, eight pieces will transcend through different styles and genres. Pieces like Extremalism-le corps en révolte, from the National Ballet of Marseille by Emio Greco and Pieter C.Sholten will open the festival at the Salle Garnier of the Monte-Carlo Opera. “What is the mankind’s response to the crises of today? How does the body react in extreme situations?”
Questions that have nothing festive about them, but are approached by one of the most recognized choreographers of his generation.
A Piece by Jean-Christophe Maillot
The Monaco Dance Forum will continue with a piece by Jean-Christophe Maillot, Salle Garnier: Men’s Dance for Women.
And Confidences, a free ice show, with no need to book in advance, on the skating rink at the Rainier-III nautical stadium, in collaboration with the City of Monaco. The work tells the true story of rebellious artistic skaters who decide to abandon glitter and stereotypes to develop an up-to-date and legitimate art of skating. From pirouettes at their beginnings to the acclaimed modernity of their latest pieces, excerpts from the repertoire of the Canadian troupe Confidences prove that, yes, skating can be truly artistic. Their pieces are from choreographers who push the boundaries of skating.
The festival will end with jubilation. The prestigious Danza Contemporanea of Cuba brings together the best dancers from the incredible pool of talent that is Cuba. While being mindful of modern trends and repertoire, the show draws on the culture and roots of the Caribbean country to offer irresistible Cuban dancing!
Finally, with its traditional choreography, the Monegasque dance company will present La Belle, in a new production from Jean-Christophe Maillot’s ballet, created in 2001, at the Grimaldi Forum, from the 28th of December until the 3rd of January. In addition to new costumes, there will also be the participation of Olga Smirnova and Semyon Chudin, stars dancers from the Bolshoï Theatre Ballet.
