The list of SEA Index® certified superyachts continues to expand with the addition of the 35m M/Y Infinity Nine built by AvA Yachts in 2022 and owned by Yacht Club de Monaco member Tony Parker. The former NBA champion received the certificate from Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco at an official ceremony. Since its launch in 2020 by YCM and Credit Suisse (a UBS brand), this system for assessing the environmental impact of superyachts has certified 55 yachts, reinforcing its role as a reference for sustainable yachting.

M/Y Infinity Nine earns 3-Star SEA Index® rating

With a gross tonnage of 333 GT, M/Y Infinity Nine which flies the YCM flag is the second vessel in AvA Yachts’ Kando 110 series. Designed as a compact explorer, it has transoceanic capabilities with a range of over 6,500 nautical miles before refuelling, a record for its category. It is thanks to cutting edge technologies and its energy efficiency that the yacht earned the 3-Star SEA Index® certification, confirming the team’s commitment to reduce yachting’s impact on the environment.

‘’From the design stage, we had a clear and determined desire to build M/Y Infinity Nine, a yacht that could combine innovation and performance with an environmental approach. This project demonstrates that excellence is not limited to pure performance, but also includes responsibility towards our planet. It’s having this sustainable vision from the outset that makes all the difference,” said Tony Parker

A certification with numerous benefits

Certified SEA Index® 3-Star rated yachts enjoy exclusive benefits including:

  • Reduced mooring fees in the YCM MarinaMonaco’s three harbours (Port Hercule, Port de Fontvieille and Cala del Forte).
  • Priority access to moorings in the 15 partner harbours and marinas between Menton, Saint-Tropez and Bonifacio, as well as the Seychelles (Eden Marina and Port Victoria).
  • 10% discount on insurance with Jutheau Husson.
  • Reduced prices for all crew on sustainability courses run by the YCM’s La Belle Classe Academy training centre.

SEA Index® : the reference for yachting that respects the environment

Thanks to a rigorous certification process run in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register, and use of online tools such as the Lifecycle Emissions Calculator, an operational efficiency evaluation method developed with RINA, the SEA Index® guarantees an impartial and transparent assessment. It has established itself as an essential tool that enables owners and stakeholders to easily assess and compare the impact on the environment of yachts over 24 metres. “With the SEA Index® certification we are supporting owners in their energy transition by offering them a clear vision and strategic advantage. Its deployment beyond Monaco is bringing together a yachting community committed to protecting the Ocean,” explains YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri.

A certification that’s constantly evolving

Awarded the CAPENERGIES label as of September 2024, the SEA Index® is the first assessment tool to integrate analysis of fuel cell technologies into its COcertification and is currently exploring how to include other greenhouse gas emissions, such as NOx (nitrogen oxide), and fine particulates. By relying on internationally renowned methodologies and working with maritime classification societies, the SEA Index® offers owners concrete ways towards adopting sustainable practices.

SEA Index® : clear and precise criteria

Environmental impact is expressed in grams of CO2 emitted per gross ton per hour, which is representative of the volume of the vessel’s enclosed space. The SEA Index® evaluation system is based on the International Maritime Organization’s methodology, with specific adaptations for yachts over 24 metres. The approach is simple and based on an analysis of the boat’s technical specifications which are then analysed using the SEA Index® tool.

By integrating the latest technologies, the SEA Index® continues its mission to provide independent and impartial assessments, reinforcing the Superyacht Eco Association’s commitment to inform and support the whole sector in the move towards more sustainable yachting.
