The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters April 8-16, 2023 features its 116th edition between land and sea. When you have Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal lining up to play your tournament you know you have something extraordinarily special.
So HelloMonaco was particularly eager to be present in the lounges of the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort when David Massey, Tournament Director, unveiled this last Thursday the main lines of the next edition of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters which will take place from April 8th to 16th, 2023. And where else would the spectacular tennis duels take place than on the legendary clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, presided over by Miss Mélanie-Antoinette de Massy.
Organized by SMETT (the Société Monégasque pour l’Exploitation du Tournoi de Tennis ) the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is the first European tournament in the ATP Masters 1000 category.
It’s an internationally renowned event, which since 1928 kicks off the season in the Principality, and which benefits alongside Rolex, the title sponsor, the loyalty of prestigious partners, to name the leading lights: BNP Paribas, Emirates, Maserati, Sergio Tacchini , Replay, Generali, Dunlop, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and Adecco, in charge of recruiting nearly a thousand people.
The Monte Carlo Masters Tennis, together with the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Monaco Yacht Show, has the whole Principality enthralled which – for a week – will vibrate to the rhythm of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
After presenting a brief retrospective of the 2022 edition which was marked by the second consecutive victory of Stefanos Tsitsipás in singles and by the pair Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury (USA/England), in doubles, David Massey announced that the kick-off for this 116th edition should be given by Stefanos himself, the Greek tennis maestro and defending champion, during a draw at the Hôtel Hermitage on Friday April 7th at 5 p.m. It will be broadcast live on Monaco Info.
The World’s Greatest of all Time (GOATS)
The line-up promises to be exceptional even if the final list of 45 players automatically admitted to the final table will not be known until March 14th, 2023 (the official date for the closing of registrations with the ATP).
The director of the Monegasque tournament seems very confident of the 2023 list of anticipated players. Novak Djokovic, world number 1, and Rafael Nadal, who should return in search of a 12th title in Monaco, were among the first to register. These two are fighting it out to be the Greatest Of All-Time having an incredible 22 Grand Slam titles each to their name.
They will have to reckon with the new generation of players who are determined to succeed them.
David Massey recommended tennis enthusiasts to book their place as soon as possible, on the official website (www.rolexmontecarlomasters.mc), because like every year, the Tournament, which welcomed 131,610 spectators on its website and has been followed by more than 76 .5 million viewers, arouses enormous enthusiasm: 80% of tickets are already sold!
