Roca Back Home On a Winning Streak with Nerves of Steel

This Roca Team version 2022-2023 shaped by Sasa Obradovic has nerves of steel. The Monegasques went for a capital victory over Asvel. And after a hard fight on the ground of Asvel, Monaco prevailed (84-75). The Asemist collective was impressive with all the players giving their all for 40 minutes. Monaco ended the encounter still second in the Euroleague with 8 wins for 3 losses. The only big downside was the exit of John Brown on a stretcher in the last minute, following a big impact from Amine Noua. His ribs were affected.

EuroLeague Clash – Asvel Monaco

For this 11th day of Euroleague with this clash between Asvel and Monaco, Sasa Obradovic had decided to change something in his starting five. Adrien Moerman and Donta Hall were lined up together and for the first time from the start. At the back it was classic with Mike James and Jordan Loyd, while Jaron Blossomgame brought his athletic qualities to position 3.

Opposite, the Villeurbannais wanted to use this confrontation against ASM to restart their machine in the Euroleague after 4 consecutive defeats in the competition. For this TJ Parker also came with some surprises starting with Jackson-Cartwright, Mathews, Noua, Risacher and Fall. The two teams went blow for blow in this Monegasque -French clash. Monaco and Asvel were back to back at the end of the first quarter (20-20). Another parity score at the break in a very exciting game to watch (45-45).

Returning from the locker room, Sasa Obradovic returned to the field with an identical five as at the start of the game with Mike James, Jordan Loyd, Jaron Blossomgame, Adrien Moerman and Donta Hall.

The start of the second period though is to the advantage of the Villeurbannais. It remained undecided and tight between the two rivals, since it went once again blow for blow. The fight was intense and difficult to predict any scenario as it swung from one side to the other.

The Roca Team started the last quarter as it should, with John Brown with two catches on the offensive rebound for 4 points for him. Donatas Motiejunas made his two shots and it was a 6-0 for ASM against Obasohan and co who did not score in these first three minutes (66-60).

The Roca Boys raised their aggressiveness in defense a little more, and forced Asvel to lose more balls. This is what Sasa Obradovic’s troupe did perfectly. The result is the Roca Team returned from the Astroballe with an important victory to stay close to the tails of Fener (84-75). But this victory was tarnished by the serious injury of John Brown in the last minute, and who had to go out on a stretcher to the applause of the Lyon supporters. The US strong winger was hard hit in the ribs.

They Said

TJ Parker (Asvel coach): “It’s difficult to win a match when you lose 21 balls and drop 17 offensive rebounds. We can’t give so many second chance opportunities to a team like Monaco. We have to continue, we have to stay positive and push the players further. »

Roca’s road trip was fruitful, rich in emotion and very accomplished: a success at Le Mans in the championship on the Tuesday (90-81), an 8th victory in the Euroleague at Villeurbanne on the Thursday (84-75)

And just now on Sunday back at Gaston Médecin ….for this 11th day, the men of Sasa Obradovic received ADA Blois and won convincingly (88 – 70).
