Resurfacing work on part of Grand Prix circuit 3–7 April 2017

A few weeks before the 2nd Formula E, set to take place on Saturday 13 May, and the 75th Formula 1 Grand Prix, from 25 to 28 May, the Department of Urban Amenities will carry out road resurfacing work on part of the circuit.

The properties of the surface used on the circuit meet the requirements of the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile, and are specifically formulated for Formula 1 cars to drive on, with enhanced performance particularly in terms of resistance.

In addition to the efforts being made for the Grand Prix, the Department of Urban Amenities regularly carries out resurfacing work, providing the Principality with a particularly well maintained urban road network.

The resurfacing work is being carried out in two stages: planing of the upper part of the road, followed by application of a layer of asphalt and reconstruction of the road.

This year, the parts of the circuit being resurfaced are: Avenuedes Spélugues, Boulevard Albert I and Boulevard Louis II. To minimise the impact on traffic, the work will take place at night according to the following schedule:

Avenue des Spélugues

  • Planing: Monday 3 to Tuesday 4 April, 8 pm to 6 am
  • Surfacing: Tuesday 4 to Wednesday 5 April, 8 pm to 6 am

The work will require the closure of Av. des Spélugues between the Portier roundabout and Av. de la Madone from 8 pm onwards.

Boulevard Albert I

  • Planing: Tuesday 4 to Wednesday 5 April, 8 pm to 6 am
  • Surfacing: Wednesday 5 to Thursday 6 April, 8 pm to 6 am

The planing work will require the closure of Bd Albert I, including the tunnel under the Rocher which provides access to the boulevard, following the end of the Monaco–Lille football match on 4 April (around 11 pm). Between 8 pm and 11 pm, the service road and the far left-hand lane of the boulevard will remain open to allow spectators to leave.

The surfacing work on Wednesday 5 April will require the closure of Bd Albert I in its entirety from 8 pm onwards. This will include the tunnel under the Rocher which provides access to the boulevard.

Boulevard Louis II

  • Planing: Wednesday 5 to Thursday 6 April, 8 pm to 6 am
  • Surfacing: Thursday 6 to Friday 7 April, 8 pm to 6 am

The planing and surfacing work will require the closure of Bd Louis II from 8 pm onwards, between the Portier roundabout and Av. J. F. Kennedy.

From Route de la Piscine, the road will be closed to traffic starting at the T Central dock.
