Prince Albert II commemorates 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Camerone

The Sovereign was in Aubagne on 30 April to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Camerone, the battle which pitted the Foreign Legion against Mexican troops on 30 April 1863. Prince Albert II wore the 1st class Legionnaire of Honour sash given to Monaco in 1947 for the occasion. The ties that unite the Principality and the Foreign Legion were first created by Prince Louis II.

Prince Albert II joined the Roca Team for a happy group photo after their victory against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in match 5 of the series. The team won the match with a score of 97 to 86. Thanks to this victory, AS Monaco Basket has now reached the Final Four of the Euroleague. The next matches will be played in Kaunas, Lithuania starting on 19 May.

Prince Albert II attends EVER Monaco

The largest event dedicated to sustainable mobility and renewable energy in the Principality took place last weekend in the presence of Prince Albert II.

“Thanks to HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco for his visit to EVER Monaco, his involvement and his availability to exhibitors,” said EVER Monaco.

The main buzz words during this year’s Ever event were: “sustainable aviation”. EVER has always been known for showcasing sustainable cars on the cutting edge of innovation, but this year, the event took to the skies and presented an exciting new electric jet for the first time.

Prince Albert II attends International Hydrographic Organization General Assembly

The 3rd session of the International Hydrographic Organization General Assembly took place in the Principality from 1-5 May. 450 representatives of the 98 member states gathered at the Grimaldi Forum. Attended by HSH Prince Albert II and HE Pierre Dartout, the member state representatives took part in a series of round tables and working groups. Attendees discussed future issues relating to nautical charts and the transition to a digital data system; new developments in marine cartography, technology and international technical standards; and the empowerment of women in this professional field.

On Thursday 4 May, Prince Albert II paid a visit onboard the US Navy’s USNS Bruce C. Heezen, along with HE Denise Campbell Bauer, the US Ambassador to France and Monaco. During the visit, the ship’s captain and crew presented the cutting-edge technology onboard the vessel, which is used for marine cartography databases.

Princess Caroline announces Prince Pierre Literary Prize Shortlist

The Literature Council of the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation, chaired by HRH the Princess of Hanover, met at the Ritz Hotel in Paris on Wednesday 10 May to draw up the list of authors in contention for the Literary Prize and Discovery Grant. Renowned Canadian writer Dominique Fortier took part in her first Literature Council meeting as a representative of Canadian literature in the French language. After lengthy deliberations, the Jury agreed upon a shortlist of five authors for the Literary Prize of  €25,000. Eight authors were shortlisted for the €12,000 Discovery Grant.

The first novels by the shortlisted authors will be presented to the public at the Monaco Multimedia Library on 29 June and there will be an opportunity to meet the authors on 9 October. The winners of the Literary Prize and the Discovery Grant will be announced during the Foundation awards ceremony at the Monaco Opera Garnier on 10 October 2023.
