“People are Happy in Monaco” says New Study by National Council

More than 500 Monegasques gathered at the Grimaldi Forum to hear the results of the “Great Consultation of Monegasques” on 26 November. The study, conducted by the BVA Xsight institute, reached a record participation rate of 38%, making it possible to establish statistics which will be used to guide future public policies by the National Council.

More than 500 Monegasques gathered at the Grimaldi Forum to hear the results of the “Great Consultation of Monegasques” on 26 November. Led by the President of the National Council, Thomas Brezzo, the presentation illustrated a strong desire to strengthen the links between elected officials and the population. The study, conducted by the BVA Xsight institute, reached a record participation rate of 38%, making it possible to establish statistics which will be used to guide future public policies by the National Council.

“This is a very valuable link of exchanges that has been established….We will work hard to strengthen it, because it is in the interest of all of us, it is in the interest of Monaco and it is in the interest of future generations,” said Thomas Brezzo during the presentation.

The survey was conducted between 11 September and 10 October 2024. Almost 3,000 questionnaires were received and processed both online and in paper. Monegasques were informed of the survey and received a single-use code allowing them to respond to the questionnaire anonymously.

90% of Monegasques are Happy

The results indicate a high level of well-being: nine out of ten Monegasques say they are happy, while three-quarters of respondents believe that Monegasques as a whole are happy. (For the same question, France reached 71% while Italy reached 58%.) Main concerns of Monegasques are quality of life, especially among the elderly and quality of care and security.

Monegasques love walking

Seven out of ten Monegasques want to see the development of soft travel and pedestrian traffic. A large majority of Monegasques said that their preferred mode of transport is on foot, and almost two out of three Monegasques prefer the bus.

Employment and housing

Monegasques generally feel fulfilled in their professional activity. Fewer feel well regarded, fairly paid and satisfied with their career. Monegasques are generally a little doubtful about the incentive to create an activity or a business in Monaco: a third of them do not express an opinion. Monegasques are generally satisfied with their housing, concerned above all by the amount of rent and charges.

Concerns…

The main concerns reported by Monegasques reported a number of concerns, including: quality of life, quality of care, security and housing. Expressed comments will guide legislative and budgetary decisions “to best meet the concrete needs of Monegasques, in a spirit of transparency and efficiency that had been promised by Thomas Brezzo when he took office,” says a recent press release by the National Council.
