November 19 is a special day for all the citizens of the Principality, as they celebrate the National Day of Monaco, also known as The Sovereign Prince’s Day.
The celebrations begin the evening before with spectacular fireworks that illuminate the harbour. Traditionally, the following morning, Monegasques gather in front of the Prince’s Palace to see the Princely family wave to the people of Monaco from a balcony of the Palace.
Another tradition is a military parade within the Palace grounds while the citizens of Monaco waved the red and white flag. Then the royal family attends a thanksgiving mass, which takes place in the St Nicholas Cathedral.
The little members of the Princely family usually wear the national uniform. For instance, the pictures of Prince Albert II as a young boy were published on the occasion of the National Day last year.
