Nice Côte d’Azur Airport had a banner year in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic records and cementing its status as a key international gateway. With nearly 14.8 million passengers passing through its terminals, the airport saw a 2.5% increase in traffic compared to 2023, even outpacing 2019’s high of 14.5 million.
A Global Hub Expands
One of the biggest achievements of the year was the sheer reach of Nice Airport’s network. In 2024, travellers, including many from Monaco, could fly to 122 destinations across 45 countries, a reflection of both growing demand and strategic expansion. Long-haul travel was particularly robust, with five direct routes to the United States, two to Canada, and six to the Gulf States.
As Franck Goldnadel, Chairman of the Board of Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, put it connecting the Côte d’Azur to major regional cities and international capitals is essential. It’s about meeting the needs of both residents and visitors in a responsible way.
A Summer of Records
The summer months were especially busy, with July and August alone seeing 3.5 million passengers. August 2nd marked the airport’s single busiest day of the year, handling over 63,000 travellers. Many of these visitors are headed for Monaco.
Sustainability in Focus
Despite the surge in traffic, Nice Airport has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint, following the example set by Monaco. By the end of 2024, the airport reportedly had cut direct emissions by over 93% compared to previous levels, with a 95% reduction at Nice itself since 2013. Future initiatives are reportedly set to drive emissions even lower, with a projected 11% reduction by 2034.
Looking Ahead: Upgrades and Innovations
Ongoing renovations at Terminal 2 aim to boost annual capacity from 14 million to 18 million passengers. By 2025, travellers can expect a new international boarding lounge, upgraded commercial areas, and a state-of-the-art airport lounge. Further enhancements, including revamped check-in and baggage facilities, will continue through early 2026.
As Nice Airport prepares to welcome even more passengers in the years ahead, to and from Monaco, its dual focus on growth and sustainability positions it as a leader in modern air travel. Just the right complement for Monaco’s own growth and sustainability.
