In a move to enhance public transportation, the Monegasque government has announced the addition of a new bus stop, “Place Sainte-Dévote (Gare),” on the express bus line X3. This change, effective from February 24, 2025, aims to provide better access to the Monaco Monte-Carlo train station for commuters traveling from Larvotto to Fontvieille.
The express lines X3 and X4, introduced in April 2024, were designed to facilitate rapid transit across the Principality with minimal intermediate stops. Operating on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., these lines have become integral to daily commuters. In the latter half of 2024, the X3 line recorded an average of approximately 13,400 passengers per month, while the X4 line saw around 5,300 monthly passengers. The user base comprises about 55% subscribers, 35% occasional travelers, and 10% schoolchildren.
The decision to introduce the “Place Sainte-Dévote (Gare)” stop stems from a comprehensive analysis of travel patterns and user feedback. Previously, the “Princesse Antoinette” stop was available only in the direction from Fontvieille to Larvotto. The new stop aims to balance the service by providing a corresponding stop for travelers heading towards Fontvieille, thereby addressing the needs of passengers wishing to access the train station more conveniently.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining flexible and adaptable transportation solutions that cater to the evolving mobility requirements of Monaco’s residents and visitors. By continuously evaluating and adjusting the bus network, the authorities strive to promote public transport usage and reduce reliance on private vehicles, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.
