At sunset, the festive and effervescent spirit of the Riviera awakens in Monaco. Glamorous, joyful, deliciously retro, Maona Monte-Carlo has been back since 24 May 2024 to add enchantment to summer evenings until 29 September.
Idyllic decor at the water’s edge, open-air cabaret atmosphere, Mediterranean cuisine featuring Monegasque specialties, a cocktail bar with vintage drinks are all set to a soundtrack by “Belle Epoque”, the label from electro collective Bon Entendeur at Maona.
In the 1960s, Monaco was THE glamorous destination par excellence. In 1962, Maona opened its doors on the beach, to happy crowds and celebrity patrons passing through the Principality. From Jerry Lewis to Joséphine Baker, Liza Minelli, Yves Montant and Omar Sharif; many stars and icons have come through the party hotspot.
Sixty years later, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has revived the legend with the opening of Maona Monte-Carlo in July 2023 to offer a new festive and gourmet address by the sea. Maona Monte-Carlo has since made its comeback for a new season, under the direction of Jean-Gabriel Lavenne.
“M” is for “Maona” and “Music”
In the 1960s (and in the 2020s) Maona Monte-Carlo stood out for its musical atmosphere. 2024 is no exception with the catchiest rhythms from the 60’s to the 90’s by ‘Belle Epoque’, the resident DJ, and the big return of performances by a Diva, for a glamorous and festive touch in a summery Cabaret spirit.
Diva played this summer by Niki Black
American-Iranian artist born in Los Angeles, Niki Black combines her powerful and warm voice with her talent as a pianist. Candidate for The Voice France in 2021, it was behind her piano that she captivated the jury and the public, reaching the semi-final. The artist will perform every evening, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. A musical relay will provided by resident DJ Jay, with mixes inspired by the 60s and 70s.
New delights on the menu
Tasty Mediterranean cuisine led by Chef Vincenzo Giordano is on Maona’s menu for this second season. New features include: Royal Artichoke Tart, Beef Stew Ravioli, Asparagus Risotto, Rock Fish Pappardelle and Veal Tagliata. The Chef’s new signature dish is the Chapon Royal de Méditerranée, which joins the Bouillabaisse Maona. For dessert, the Galapian, one of last summer’s favourites, will compete for the spotlight with the new and delicious Baba au Rhum.
Bar Sauvage
Bar Sauvage, Maona’s lounge bar, is fully stocked for an aperitif before dinner, or an after party with music. Head Bartender Marco Stella introduces his sublime classic cocktails, Maona-style, such as the Americano rosé, composed of Vermouth Monte-Carlo and Vodka 06.
“We love (in moderation) his original creations such as: the Negroni soufflé (gin, mancino rosso, Mozart dark chocolate and puffed rice), the Sauvage Margarita (tequila blanco, mandarin, lime, wild lemon thyme, Sauvage spray) and the Maona Spritz (Rinomato Aperitivo deciso, Sakura mancino, strawberry soda and white wine),” states a recent press release by the SBM.
Every evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Bar Sauvage offers “Da Spartagià” its Monegasque aperitif, a festive moment with cocktails accompanied by Mediterranean snacks.
From 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. is the Piano Bar Aperitivo, where cocktails, Champagne, or rosé wines are accompanied by regional and gourmet finger food: light and crispy panisse fries, chickpea and dried tomato cream dip, Corsican charcuterie.
