The first Monte-Carlo Gala for the Oceans promises to be a star-studded event which will also help protect the future of our planet.
On Thursday 28 September 2017, during the Monaco Yacht Show, the Monte-Carlo Gala for the Oceans will be held on the Terrasses de l’Opéra. The gala will help support initiatives from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
Containing over 70% of the planet’s surface and 97% of its biosphere, the ocean plays a fundamental role in climate regulation, producing 50% of the world’s oxygen and absorbing 25% of the its carbon dioxide.
Since its creation in 2006, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has placed ocean-related issues at the heart of its work: to better understand environmental hazards which oceans are exposed to, combating plastic pollution, protecting endangered species, promoting innovative and sustainable solutions and strengthening and developing marine protected areas.
Chaired by HSH the Sovereign Prince and organized by Milutin Gatsby, Global Fundraising Chairman, the first edition of the Monte-Carlo Gala for the Oceans will honor Leonardo DiCaprio for his exemplary work in the preservation of our Planet.
Uma Thurman, Goldie Hawn, Andy Garcia, Kevin Spacey, Eva Longoria, Madonna, Joe Pesci, Martin Scorsese, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tobey Maguire, Enric Sala and Terry Tamminen have joined this initiative, confirming their commitment to protecting the ocean.
The evening will be punctuated by an auction, hosted by Simon de Pury, which will contain collectibles, unique experiences and a selection of works of art signed by great artists.
Ensuring the sustainability of the oceans is a shared responsibility for present and future generations and is essential for the future of our planet.
