Jazz & Cinema: Discover Monte Carlo’s Jazz Festival’s Upcoming Swinging Notes!

This autumn, the Monte Carlo Jazz Festival returns with its 18th edition, promising an unforgettable blend of music and film from November 17 to December 1, 2024. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Opéra Garnier Monte-Carlo, this year’s festival showcases an exciting array of international talent, from jazz icons to rising stars, along with special cinematic features.

Opening the festival on November 20th, young prodigies from the Rainier III Academy will present a Jazz & Modern Music concert, offering a glimpse into the future of the genre. Following this, the program dives into a star-studded lineup, with highlights including a performance by the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra alongside the Dal Sasso Big Band on November 21st. Dee Dee Bridgewater and saxophonist Stefano di Battista will take the stage the next evening, followed by the soulful duo of Mayra Andrade and Ayo on November 23rd.

As the festival progresses, the British jazz-funk group Level 42 and the French trio Émile Londonien will energize audiences on November 27th, while Afrobeat takes the spotlight the next day with Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, joined by Afro-Cuban sensation Cimafunk. November 29th brings a guitar showcase with Matthieu Chedid (-M-) and Thibault Cauvin, followed by the ethereal vocals of Sophye Soliveau. To round out the musical performances, Italian crooner Mario Biondi and American vocalist Stella Cole will captivate the audience on November 30th.

Beyond the music, the festival embraces cinema, adding a unique dimension to the experience. A special screening of Louis Malle’s classic *Elevator to the Gallows*, with a haunting soundtrack by Miles Davis, will take place on November 24th. The festival concludes on December 1st with a screening of Damien Chazelle’s *Whiplash*, accompanied by a live performance of its powerful score.

This year’s Monte Carlo Jazz Festival continues its tradition of blending musical mastery with cultural richness, all within the opulent setting of Monaco’s most iconic venues. Whether you’re a jazz aficionado or a curious listener, the festival offers a rich, multi-sensory experience that promises to resonate long after the final note is played.
