The eighth edition of Artmonte-carlo was held at the Grimaldi Forum on July 6 and 7, 2024. The Art Fair hosted 27 leading international galleries of modern and contemporary art in an elegant atmosphere.
Initiated in 2016, artmonte-carlo was created to establish a quality art event on the Côte d’Azur, honouring the demands of the region’s many collectors and art lovers.
Collaboration between Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Monaco’s Art Students
The sail over the staircase at the entrance to Art Monte Carlo 2024 was borrowed from the set of a choreographic piece developed jointly by the Princess Grace Academy and the Pavillon Bosio École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques de Monaco. The installation is titled “Les Imprévus : Fly”.
The performance was written by choreographer Elias Lazaridis for fourteen young dancers from the Académie and premiered in March at the Atelier des Ballets in Beausoleil. It will be performed again on June 21 at the Opéra Garnier.
Artist Luciano Chessa presents “Monaco Mobile”
As part of the fair, artist Luciano Chessa presented his work, Monaco Mobile, a multi-sensory experience produced by the Théâtre Princesse Grace and the Principality of Monaco’s Direction des Affaires Culturelles. Vibrating strings, lights, motors and supports merged to create a synthetic landscape.
Outdoor Exhibition features furniture produced by the Prince Albert II Foundation
Outside the fair, the Grimaldi Forum Esplanade featured a selection of sculptures from exhibiting galleries, as well as furniture produced by the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco and the Pavillon Bosio. Four wooden benches (55 cm tall and 200 cm long) were designed Gabriel-Noé Rosticher and Ahmad Reshad, students in Art and Scenography at the École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques de Monaco. They spent several months working within the layout of the festival to design the seating. Made out of recycled wood, the pieces were inspired by Japanese construction technique “kigumi”. The furniture was assembled without screws and can be dismantled easily.
Marble Scuplture “Geraldine”
German sculptor, Stefan Rinck displayed a large marble sculpture (1,050 kg) called Geraldine (2022). The piece appears to be a hybrid between a cartoon dinosaur and a horned rhinoceros. Reminiscent of animal sculpture (a genre that triumphed in the 19th century) and urban furniture, the piece is rooted in an imaginary world at the crossroads of Romanesque sculpture and contemporary cartoons.
F.P.Journe Artmonte-carlo Prize Winner
Thanks to the support of F.P.Journe, a long-standing partner of the Salon, the acquisition of a work presented at the fair was donated to the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco. The work was selected by a prestigious jury of three leading figures in the art world: Björn Dahlström, Director of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Francesco Manacorda, Director of Castello di Rivoli and Meriem Berrada, Artistic Director of MACAAL in Marrakech. This year’s winner of the Artmonte-carlo F.P.Journe Prize 2024 was Anna Boghiguian.
