Highlight of the Summer: Alicia Keys to Headline Red Cross Gala

The largest fundraising event of the year for the Monaco Red Cross, the annual Red Cross Gala, will be headlined by none other than Alicia Keys. On 18 July, 15-time Grammy award-winning singer Alicia Keys will take to the stage for an exclusive outdoor concert on the Place du Casino, in front of only 2,000 guests.

Every year since 1974, when Josephine Baker made her unprecedented comeback at the age of 68, the Monaco Red Cross Gala has been held at the Salle des Etoiles in the Sporting Monte-Carlo. That is, until the pandemic caused the 2020 Gala to be postponed. Last year’s event, with pop jazz singer Jamie Cullum, took place on the Place du Casino for the first time in history.

In the presence of HSH Prince Albert II, President of the Monaco Red Cross, last year’s outdoor Gala was an unforgettable success. The landmark decision to move the event outside provided an uplifting experience during uncertain times, and is definitely worth repeating.

Gilles Marsan, artistic director of the Société des Bains de Mer, announced the news about the 73rd Red Cross Gala last Thursday. This year, the stage will be positioned in front of the Jardin des Boulingrins, or the same location as the grandstand during the Grand Prix. 2,000 guests will be seated under the stars. Guests will be first welcomed on the terraces of the Casino for a cocktail reception before the Gala.

Set in a glamorous atmosphere, the Gala starts with the traditional drawing of the tombola, followed by a lavish meal featuring summer flavours. The R&B melodies and soulful voice of Alicia Keys will be the highlight of the event, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display to illuminate the skies above the Principality. All for the benefit of an organization doing tireless work across the globe, including providing emergency aid and healthcare to those affected by the current crisis in the Ukraine.
