The Fontvieille marquee in Monaco recently played host to the fifth edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair, Art3f, which ran from Friday, August 23, to Sunday, August 25. This year’s event was a resounding success, drawing a crowd of thousands and thousands of art enthusiasts and collectors, eager to explore a vibrant collection of contemporary art that was both accessible and diverse. With its unique blend of established artists, emerging talents, and professional galleries, Art3f once again demonstrated why it has become a staple in Monaco’s cultural calendar.
Art3f has always distinguished itself from more traditional art fairs by cultivating a warm, inclusive atmosphere. This year’s edition continued this tradition, offering visitors a chance to engage directly with well over 100 artists and gallery owners, fostering an environment of openness and creativity. The fair was not just about admiring art from afar; it was about building connections, sharing stories, and experiencing the emotional resonance of art in a communal setting.
A Feast for the Senses
A notable highlight of the fair was the central bar and restaurant, which served as a lively gathering spot throughout the event. The opening night was particularly memorable, with live music setting a festive tone as guests mingled over an array of gourmet dishes and refreshing drinks. Whether enjoying a quick sandwich or indulging in something more elaborate, attendees found the dining experience to be as much a part of the fair’s appeal as the art itself.
Art for Every Taste and Budget
Visitors had the opportunity to explore thousands of works across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and photography. Prices ranged from a few hundred euros to several thousand, ensuring that there was something for everyone, from first-time buyers to seasoned collectors. As Serge Beninca, the founder of Art3f, emphasized, the fair focuses on art that resonates emotionally, rather than pieces that require extensive interpretation or come with hefty price tags.
A Platform for Discovery and Exchange
Beyond the diversity of artwork on display, Art3f also provided a valuable platform for artists and galleries to connect. One standout exhibitor was Rafael Ferraraccio, a Brazilian sculptor, designer, painter, and scenographer known for his use of bright, vibrant colours to infuse his work with lightness and joy. Making his debut in Monaco, Ferraraccio captivated attendees with a new series of paintings created exclusively for the fair. These pieces paid homage to the Monaco Grand Prix legend, Ayrton Senna, blending spirituality with a tribute to the iconic Formula 1 driver. Ferraraccio’s unique style and thematic focus drew significant attention, contributing to the fair’s dynamic atmosphere and underlining its reputation as a space for discovering fresh talent.
Several artists reported significant sales, with some selling many pieces, underscoring the fair’s effectiveness as a commercial and creative hub.
An Event to Remember
As the event concluded on Sunday evening, it was clear that Art3f had once again succeeded in bringing contemporary art to life in a way that was both approachable and engaging. With its relaxed atmosphere, wide range of artworks, and emphasis on direct artist engagement, the fair stands out as a unique celebration of contemporary art in the heart of Monaco.
