While creating The Taming of the Shrew for the Bolshoi Ballet in 2014, Jean-Christophe Maillot discovered Olga Smirnova, a young dancer who interpreted the role of Bianca that he had imagined for her wonderfully. Seduced by the grace, technique and freshness of the soloist, the choreographer then invited her occasionally to Monaco to dance roles from his repertoire created for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
This year, the collaboration between Jean-Christophe Maillot and Olga Smirnova, who has acquired an international reputation in just a few years, will be particularly marked.
In January 2023, when the company travels to Seville to present Romeo and Juliet, Olga Smirnova will be Juliet. A few weeks later, on the occasion of the 50th Prix de Lausanne presided over by Jean-Christophe Maillot, she will perform a Pas de deux from her Nutcracker Company. Finally, in April 2023, the young soloist who left Russia and is currently dancing at the Het Nationale Ballet, will travel to Monaco to perform the role of La Belle in the ballet of the same name.
