Since 1993, Star Team for the Children Monaco has organised numerous sporting events to raise funds for associations helping children around the world. Recently, at the Domaine de Barbossi in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, the 14th World Star Charity Golf Tournament took place.
Mauro Serra, president of Star Team for the Children Monaco, said that this year’s tournament had excellent teams of competitors participating to raise funds for children. Starting in 2018, Save the Children will launch a new project which will register underprivileged children and follow-up on them every month. This year’s tournament helped support that cause.
Other than the football match between drivers and members of the Star Team during the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the organisation regularly holds ski competitions as well beach volleyball games in the name of charity.
This year’s golf tournament was played in the Scramble format, where each player hits a tee shot on each hole, but everyone plays from the spot where the best shot landed. The teams were composed of four players, two women and two men. Among the participants were footballers Sonny Anderson, Olivier Dacourt and José Cobos, skiers Marc Girardelli and Pernilla Wiberg, professional golfer Sophie Sandolo as well as other champion members of the Star Team.
French footballer Olivier Dacourt said the tournament was a beautiful moment to share, something which is what’s important to him. It was his first time competing on the golf course with the Star Team. It was a great experience for him, especially because it was for a good cause.
This event was organised in collaboration with Sportel. The Star Team members came to Monaco to help with the Sportel awards, compete on the golf course and help children around the world.
