Monaco participates in One Planet Summit

At the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, accompanied by a delegation, took part in the One Planet Summit in Paris on 12 December 2017. The Summit’s objective was to consider innovative ways to support and accelerate the fight against climate change. The event featured more than 50 speakers, including NGOs, entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, local stakeholders and scientists. Taking part in four round tables, they sought to identify and implement concrete solutions, and to mobilise public and private financial resources, including in the most vulnerable countries.

Prince Albert II aboard the Energy Observer Vessel

Prince Albert II and adventurer Bertrand Piccard, who are both committed to the protection of the planet and the oceans, boarded the Energy Observer vessel for a tour. The vessel recently began its innovative journey around the world using only renewable energies. The vessel will make its way through 50 countries, 101 stopovers, over six years.

Before boarding the vessel, Prince Albert suggested a collaboration between the Energy Observer and the Yersin, an environmentally friendly scientific vessel on a mission to reconnect humanity with the sea.  It would indeed be a perfect match.

Supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the vessel uses only wind, hydrogen and solar energy.  The Energy Observer traveled 4,000 miles before stopping in Monaco.  The Principality is the vessel’s twelfth and final stop on its ‘tour de France’ because of Monaco’s commitment to the planet and renewable energy.
