Sir Stelios hosts ‘Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy’ Conference

One hundred and eighty members and friends of the Junior Chamber of Commerce met the EasyJet boss who hosted a conference on “Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy”.

Olivier Mura and Laetitia Mikail, President and Director of Business Network Events at the Junior Chamber of Economics of Monaco (JCEM), have found a dynamic and successful formula for their ‘Business Time’ networking events. They assembled 180 members and friends around Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

“We were ‘sold out’ more than three days before the event, unheard of,” says Laetitia Mikail. On his terrace in his private residence on the Quai Antoine-l, the owner of EasyJet hosted a forty-minute conference followed by a cocktail dinner. And for the first time in the history of JCEM, the evening was exclusively in English.

“When I was asked to take over the management of the Business Time events, my only requirement was to be able to organize at least two of the four events of the year in English,” explains the young woman. “This was in order to expand our network.”

Sir Stelios Haji-loannou hosted a conference on ‘Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy’. He is the first Monegasque resident to join Bill Gates’ association, The Giving Pledge, and to commit himself, after his death, to giving half his fortune to his foundation. A subject that is close to the heart of the internationally renowned entrepreneur.

Founder of EasyGroup and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, he explained to JCEM attendees that he was able to get a boost from his father who lent him money to launch EasyJet, at the age of 28, in 1995. He moved from EasyJet to EasyGroup and developed the easy brand which has over a thousand registered trademarks today. In 2007, Stelios declared: “I decided to pay my debt to the company” and created the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation (UK, Cyprus, Greece and Monaco). Also involved is Michel Bouquier, technical advisor at the Department of Finance and Economy and head of the Monaco Private Label, which is also philanthropic.
