Pentecost and confirmation of adults
June 9, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Pentecost recalls the gift of the Holy Spirit to the apostles and the birth of the Church. This event is symbolically celebrated fifty days after Easter (in Greek, pentêkostê means “fiftieth” see in the Bible the 2nd chapter of the Acts of the Apostles).
The day is a commemoration of the coming of the Holy Spirit on the gathered disciples in Jerusalem, 10 days after the Ascension of Christ and the giving of the Great Commission.
Thus, Ascension is always celebrated on a Thursday in Monaco and in France and Pentecost on a Sunday.
Pentecost also marks the end of the Easter time, the feast time that followed Easter Day.
This year, prepared by the Service of Christian Initiation, 11 adults will receive confirmation on the day of Pentecost at 10:30 in St. Nicholas Church. The confirmation Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Bernard Barsi, our Archbishop.
