Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival (“Printemps des Arts”): Opera Today – concert by Jean-Étienne Sotty, accordion (Luciano Berio) and “Quatre jeunes filles” (“Four Young Girls”) by Edison Denisov, an opera in concert version by the Studio of the Lyon Opera, Musicatreiz and L’Ensemble orchestral contemporain conducted by Daniel Kawka on Friday 6 April, at 8.30 pm in Théâtre des Variétés.
Opera in concert version for chorus and orchestra (6 parts) after Edison Denisov’s libretto and Pablo Picasso’s piece: « Les quatre petites filles ».
Censored by Soviet propaganda, Edison Denisov always resisted by maintaining a free and radical style. Performed here in concert version, his opera Four Girls (1986) was written after a piece by Pablo Picasso (1947): in a surrealist style, four girls rant about life, love, death…
