Lecture: “The Women of the Prehistoric Age”
October 2 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lecture: “The Women of the Prehistoric Age” is organized on Wednesday 2 October 2024, at 6 pm, in Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique.
Prehistoric women were for a long time invisible, ignored, overlooked. That was largely due to stubborn bias and preconceptions about their relative unimportance in the grand scheme of humanity’s intellectual and technological development. But in recent decades, the discipline of archaeology has become increasingly female, and more research has been done into the place of women in ancient societies. In this lecture, Sophie A. de Beaune, Professor at Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and researcher at the Laboratory of Ancient Archaeology and Science in Nanterre, will use archaeological data to illustrate what we currently know about women and their place in human groups.
