Market days are a way of life in Provence and along the Cote d’Azur, and that includes the tiny Principality of Monaco. They originated in the 12th century, when farmers and craftsmen would come to nearest market town to sell their goods and try to engage in bartering agreements.

It might come as a surprise, but despite Monaco’s air of luxury, the good old-fashioned market is still alive in the principality on a daily basis.
