In the 17th century, Marian devotion occupied a preponderant place reinforced by the climate of piety which reigned in the Kingdom of France since the Council of Trent and the Catholic Counter-Reformation. Also, the work of Marc-Antoine Charpentier attests to this particular attraction for Marian worship.
This program compiles a set of touching motets from the deepest depths of the intimate, deploying an extraordinary emotional palette, whose theatricality invites itself to the confines of an exhilarating spirituality.
